What you write stays a file

Stilo is a Markdown editor for iPhone and iPad. It keeps no library of its own: it opens and saves the .md files already sitting in Files and iCloud Drive. It also brings the typographic tools East Asian writing needs.

What it does

Your files stay yours. Edit Markdown directly on this iPhone, in iCloud Drive or on another cloud service. Other apps open the very same files
Vertical text preview. Read your work in vertical columns, just as it appears in print
Ruby annotation. |北海道《ほっかいどう》 becomes ruby text above the base characters
Page counts and goals. Count in 400-character manuscript sheets, Taiwanese gaozhi, Korean wongoji or 250 words per page
PDF and HTML export. Vertical text and ruby go straight into the PDF
Import your own fonts and set your favourite serif for the vertical preview

Stilo Pro

Editing, preview, find and replace, reading and writing files, character and word counts, and HTML export are free. Vertical preview, ruby conversion, page counts and goals, PDF export, and themes with font import come with Stilo Pro. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.

If the free version covers what you need, keep using it. Pro is not required for writing; it is for reading and publishing your work in typeset form.
